How to Prepare a CSC-Compliant ID Picture

Complete specs for the CSC passport photo: hand-held name tag, white background, collar styles, and layout sizing.

How to Prepare a CSC-Compliant ID Picture

When applying for the Career Service Examination (CSE) or other transactions with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in the Philippines, submitting a compliant ID picture is one of the most critical steps. A large percentage of application rejections are caused by non-compliant photos.

Here is a guide to preparing a photo that meets the CSC's strict guidelines.

1. Official CSC Photo Specifications

To be accepted, your ID photo must conform to these parameters:

  • Size: Passport size (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm or 1.37 x 1.77 inches).
  • Background: Solid, neutral White background.
  • Recency: Taken within the last three (3) months prior to filing.
  • Pose: Face looking straight at the camera, neutral expression, both ears visible.
  • Attire: Must wear collar attire (e.g., polo, collared shirt, or blazer). Sleeveless shirts or t-shirts are not allowed.

2. The Name Tag Requirement

The CSC requires a hand-held name tag positioned at the chest level:

  • Format: FIRST NAME - MIDDLE INITIAL - LAST NAME - EXTENSION NAME (e.g., JUAN A. DELA CRUZ, JR.).
  • Layout: The tag must have a white background with black text. The name must be legible and written in print letters.
  • Self-Tagging: If you do not have a physical name tag, you can add a digital name tag layout using our ID Picture Maker.

3. Preparing Your Photo on ToolBayan

You can format your selfie or snapshot easily:

  1. Open the ID Picture Maker.
  2. Upload a clear portrait photo of yourself wearing collared attire.
  3. Select CSC Compliant from the size options.
  4. Align your eyes and head using the center guides.
  5. Toggle Add Name Tag, enter your full legal name, and download the finished JPG file.

4. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Wearing Eyeglasses or Headgear: Take off prescription glasses, sunglasses, hats, or headbands.
  • Digitally Altered Faces: Do not use beauty filters or heavy face-slimming retouches. The photo must represent your actual appearance.
  • Incorrect Name Format: Double-check that your middle initial is included and that your name matches your PSA birth certificate.
